This dropped into the old virtual letter box the other day. Another newsletter from the BKFA covering some interesting ground, particularly in relation to the new requirements for people coming into contact with children or vulnerable people.

Sorry folks, but for some reason my AV software will not allow me to attach the file. You'll have to wait for Will to put it in the next Windjammer!

 Re: BKFA News Update
This is something which I was going to raise myself as I do have good knowledge in this area..
To be honest, as we do not hold responsibility for kids ourselves we don't have too much to worry about...
The only people who could be affected are the teddybear droppers, but even then it does not fit the criteria, especially if not doing it alone with children.....
I will keep the committee updated as I find out more through my work.....

 Re: BKFA News Update
I have taken some legal advice and also have been in touch with the government agency operating the vetting and barring system for those who come into regular contact with vulnerable adults and young children. It is difficult to obtain a clear answer as there are differing interpretations in regarde to regular contactand with there being a review of the guidelines.

It would seem the best course of action for members who are going to be in contact via Teddy bear dropping and/or kite making workshops is to be vetted. This is especially if we have requests for these activites at least once a month over the kite season. As volunteers receiving no payment then it will be at no cost to the individual. It does affect being interactive with children or vulnerable adults when we are flying on Sundays or at Kite Festivals so long as there is a responsible adult with the individual

The matter is being discussed at the next committee meeting on Thursday 15th October
